Who can participate in the Black Excellence Graduation Ceremony?
We recognize Illinois students receiving their Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral or Professional degrees between August 2024 and May 2025.
How can I register?
Registration has ended.
Will the ceremony be live streamed?
Yes! The link to the view the live stream of the ceremony will be available, May 10, 2025.
Do I need tickets and is there a limit to the number of family/friends I can invite?
There is a 5 ticket maximum available per student. Additional tickets may be available after initial distribution. Seating is first come, first serve.
Am I required to wear a cap and gown to participate in the Black Excellence Ceremony? If so, where can I get my regalia?
Yes! All participants in the ceremony are required to wear regalia. Learn how to order your commencement regalia. Your cap and gown are ordered through UIC Bookstores and requires payment.

The exact time for the Black Excellence Photoshoot will be shared in January 2025, prior to registration. Graduates will have the opportunity to select a time for their headshot photo.
I'm concerned about the cost of regalia required to participate in the Black Excellence Ceremony.
